Experience the Game Like Never Before with Arri's Revolutionary Live Xtreme Camera

Unveiling the Alexa 35 Live Xtreme: A New Era in Broadcast Technology

Arri has introduced its newest camera system, the Alexa 35 Live Xtreme, marking a significant milestone in its product evolution. This advanced camera is specifically engineered to enhance the quality of live event coverage, providing exceptional high-frame-rate (HFR) outputs, a streamlined professional broadcast workflow, and a high-resolution image sensor that captures every detail with precision.

Redefining Slow Motion: Integrated High-Speed Capture for Dynamic Events

A standout feature of the Alexa 35 Live Xtreme is its ability to produce 8x slow-motion footage in HD and 2x slow-motion in 4K UHD, all through standard SDI workflows. This eliminates the need for separate, specialized slow-motion cameras, offering a more integrated and efficient solution. This capability is particularly impactful for sports broadcasting, where slow-motion replays are crucial for analyzing key plays and enhancing viewer engagement. Beyond sports, the camera is also ideal for capturing the energy and detail of live concerts and other major events.

Consistent Visual Excellence: Unmatched Image Quality and Workflow Efficiency

The Alexa 35 Live Xtreme maintains Arri's renowned image quality, including its celebrated cinematic color reproduction and lifelike skin tones. By integrating high-speed capture directly into the main camera system, Arri ensures a consistent visual aesthetic across both live broadcasts and highlight reels. This design allows broadcast professionals, from engineers to directors, to operate within their familiar workflows, simplifying complex productions.

Advanced Motion Control: Achieving Seamless Blending in Live Productions

When used in conjunction with other Arri cameras, the Alexa 35 Live Xtreme features an advanced motion blur control system. This technology enables broadcasters to seamlessly match the visual characteristics of standard-speed cameras by blending multiple phases, creating natural-looking motion blur without compromising the quality of high-frame-rate output. This innovation ensures visual coherence across diverse camera setups in a live production environment.

Under the Hood: The Powerful Super 35 CMOS Sensor and Recording Capabilities

At the core of the Arri Alexa 35 Live Xtreme is a Super 35 format Arri Alex 4 CMOS sensor, featuring a traditional Bayer color filter array. This custom-designed sensor, also used in Arri's Super 35 Alexa and Amira series, delivers exceptional performance. The camera can capture ArriRAW video at resolutions up to 4.6K in Open Gate mode (28 x 19.2 mm image area at 4608 x 3164 resolution), with frame rates reaching 80 frames per second. It supports 16:9 4.6K at 95 fps, 16:9 4K UHD at 125 fps, 3.8K at up to 190 fps, and HD at 260 and 330 fps. ArriCORE can be recorded at up to 660 frames per second in 2K and HD resolutions. Additionally, the camera boasts up to 17 stops of dynamic range and an electronic shutter range from 1s to 1/8000s, or 5 to 356 degrees of shutter angle. It supports ArriRAW, ArriCORE, Apple ProRes 4444 XQ, ProRes 4444, and ProRes 422 HQ file types. While some of the highest frame rates utilize a "sensor overdrive" mode, which may slightly impact dynamic range, this is a common trade-off in high-speed camera technology.

Bridging the Gap: The Ultimate Solution for Broadcast Demands

Arri's primary objective with the Alexa 35 Live Xtreme is to eliminate the compromise between using a specialized high-frame-rate camera and a standard broadcast unit. This camera is engineered to excel in both scenarios without sacrificing performance or ease of use. This integrated approach represents a significant advantage, particularly in environments where camera space is limited, such as sports arenas or crowded event venues.

Acquisition and Market Presence: Understanding the Investment

The Arri Alexa 35 Live Xtreme is currently available for purchase, though specific retail listings are still emerging. Given its advanced features and professional-grade capabilities, it is expected to be a substantial investment. The Arri Alexa 35 Live Standard System, which includes the camera, a base license, and various essential adapters and workflow tools, is priced at $115,400. For comparison, the standard Arri Alexa 35 Xtreme, without the live production enhancements, starts at approximately $70,000. Therefore, the Alexa 35 Live Xtreme is likely to fall within a similar high-end price bracket, reflecting its position as a premium broadcasting solution.
