Christie's Online Sale Disappoints, Sotheby's Achieves Record-Breaking Success
Christie's recent online sale of works from the Anita and Chaim "Poju" Zabludowicz collection concluded with a combined total of $126,285, falling significantly short of its estimated range of £292,000 to £435,400 ($385,100–$574,200). More than half of the 44 artworks offered failed to sell, an outcome attributed in part to ongoing tensions within the art world surrounding the Zabludowicz family's ties to Israel. Conversely, Sotheby's London achieved an "unqualified success" with its recent double-header sale, generating an astounding £393.4 million ($520.7 million). This marks the highest total ever achieved in a single night at auction in Europe, a triumph celebrated by Sotheby's European chairman, Oliver Barker, who shared insights into his career and the state of the art world in a recent interview with The Telegraph.
