Canon Unveils Its First L-Series Power Zoom Lens for RF Mount
Canon has made a significant advancement with the introduction of its inaugural L-Series Power Zoom lens for the RF mount, the RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ. This groundbreaking lens caters primarily to video content creators, offering a flexible focal length suitable for various video recording scenarios, from wide-angle self-filming to general-purpose videography. It distinguishes itself as the first RF-mount lens to natively incorporate Power Zoom functionality, eliminating the need for external accessories.
The lens's Power Zoom capability provides extensive control options, allowing users to adjust zoom smoothly directly from the lens, via a rocker switch on the new R6 V camera, through Canon's BR-E2 Wireless Remote Control, or using the Canon Camera Connect application on smartphones. This versatility enables precise zoom speed adjustments for diverse creative needs. Furthermore, the lens features a sophisticated optical design with 11 groups and 13 elements, including three Ultra-low Dispersion and two aspherical elements, enhanced by Canon's advanced Super Spectra and Air Sphere coatings for superior image quality and protection.
Equipped with three Nano USM motors, two dedicated to zooming and one for focusing, the RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ ensures quiet, rapid, and accurate autofocus. Its compact and balanced design, weighing 420 grams and measuring approximately 98.4 millimeters, makes it an ideal companion for gimbals, which can also integrate with its Power Zoom controls. The integrated image stabilization system provides up to six stops of shake correction, extending to eight stops when paired with a camera's in-body image stabilization, offering exceptional stability for both still photography and video recording.
