Cosina Unveils New Silver Voigtländer Lenses for Fujifilm X Mount

Cosina has officially unveiled two new additions to its Voigtländer lens lineup for Fujifilm X Mount: the Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical and the Nokton 35mm f/1.2. These lenses, presented in a stylish silver finish, are highly anticipated by photographers seeking premium manual-focus options. Expected to be available this autumn, these silver variants follow the successful black versions released in 2022 and 2021, marking a significant update to Cosina's offerings for Fujifilm X mirrorless camera users.
Introducing Cosina's Latest Voigtländer Lenses for Fujifilm X System
In a recent announcement, Cosina, a renowned optical manufacturer, delighted the photography community with the introduction of two elegant silver-edition Voigtländer lenses tailored for the Fujifilm X Mount. These manual-focus prime lenses, the Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical and the Nokton 35mm f/1.2, are set to enrich the creative toolkit of Fujifilm users. The release, initially reported by Asobinet, signifies Cosina's continued commitment to the X-Mount platform, following their Color-Skopar 18mm f/2.8 pancake lens earlier this year.
The Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Silver, a fast manual-focus lens, provides a versatile semi-wide-angle perspective, equivalent to a 35mm focal length on a full-frame camera due to the APS-C crop factor. Cosina highlights its exceptional resolving power and sharp imagery, even at its widest f/1.2 aperture, which also produces beautifully soft background blur and excellent subject isolation. Comprising 10 elements across six groups, this lens boasts a 12-bladed aperture diaphragm for precise control. Its manual focus mechanism allows for a close-focusing distance of 0.18 meters (7.1 inches), achieving a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:4.9. Weighing a mere 219 grams (7.7 ounces) and measuring 43.8 millimeters (1.72 inches) in length, it's a compact and robust option. While offering electronic communication, compatibility varies; full functionality is assured with Fujifilm X-T2 and newer models, while select older bodies like the X-T1 may have limitations.
Complementing its wider sibling, the Nokton 35mm f/1.2 Silver delivers a field of view equivalent to a 52.5mm lens on a full-frame system, making it an ideal "nifty fifty" for X Mount photographers. This lens incorporates a traditional double Gauss optical design with eight elements in six groups. Like the 23mm model, it features a 12-bladed aperture diaphragm, providing a satisfying tactile experience for aperture adjustments. Cosina assures outstanding image quality from the maximum aperture, coupled with a smooth, pleasing bokeh. With a weight of 196 grams (6.9 ounces) and a length of 39.8 millimeters (1.6 inches), it is remarkably lightweight and compact. It can focus down to 0.3 meters (11.8 inches), yielding a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:6.7. Cosina emphasizes the smooth and precise manual focusing facilitated by its finely machined all-metal helicoid unit. Similar to the 23mm, its electronic communication capabilities are optimized for more recent Fujifilm X camera bodies.
These latest silver lenses are scheduled for release in the autumn. The Nokton 35mm f/1.2 Silver is anticipated in September, with the 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Silver following in October. Although US pricing is yet to be announced, Japanese pricing indicates approximately 93,000 yen for the 23mm and 81,000 yen for the 35mm, translating to roughly $584 and $509, respectively, at current exchange rates. However, potential buyers in the US should anticipate prices similar to the current black versions, which are around $649 each.
The unveiling of these two silver Voigtländer lenses by Cosina offers an exciting prospect for Fujifilm X-Mount photographers. The combination of classic manual control, high optical performance, and an elegant aesthetic makes these lenses not just tools, but potential creative partners. In an era dominated by autofocus, the deliberate and tactile experience these lenses provide can reconnect photographers with the fundamental joy of image-making. Their arrival underscores Cosina's dedication to providing specialized, high-quality alternatives for discerning photographers, encouraging a more thoughtful and engaged approach to capturing moments.
