Cro-Mags Unleashes 'Wired for Chaos', Their First New Track in Six Years

New York City's influential hardcore band, Cro-Mags, has broken a six-year silence with their latest single, "Wired for Chaos." This powerful new offering, which premiered exclusively on Rolling Stone, marks a significant return for the group and sets the stage for future releases.
The song, titled after a recent documentary chronicling the intense life of vocalist Harley Flanagan, encapsulates the signature Cro-Mags sound. Flanagan himself commented on the track's dynamic structure, noting its aggressive metal introduction suitable for a UFC entrance or video game, transitioning into a classic hardcore thrash rhythm, and concluding with a powerful breakdown characteristic of the band's style. Lyrically, the song delves into Flanagan's personal journey, exploring the consequences of his challenging life, marked by addiction and conflict since his early beginnings as a musical prodigy in punk scenes.
Accompanying "Wired for Chaos" is a music video directed by Rex Miller, featuring live performances and behind-the-scenes glimpses from recent Cro-Mags tours. Flanagan highlighted the video's nostalgic feel, drawing comparisons to their seminal 1986 video for "We Gotta Know." He also expressed pride in the band's diverse fanbase, which spans hardcore enthusiasts, metalheads, punks, and skinheads, likening their broad appeal to that of iconic bands like Motörhead.
"Wired for Chaos" is the band's first release since their 2020 album, In the Beginning, and their debut with metal label BLKIIBLK. This new single is a prelude to an upcoming album slated for release next year. Fans can also catch Cro-Mags live, as they embark on an extensive European tour throughout the summer, followed by two U.S. festival appearances in the fall.
