The Hong Kong Palace Museum has officially forged an alliance with the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan. This significant agreement lays the groundwork for extensive cooperation, encompassing joint exhibitions, academic research, and various other cultural projects.

Strengthening Ties with Central Asia

The recent signing ceremony solidified a pivotal connection between these two cultural powerhouses. This milestone represents the first official reciprocal visit by a Central Asian cultural institution since Hong Kong's Chief Executive, John Lee Ka-chiu, led a delegation to the region. This initiative builds upon a prior agreement established with the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan.

Louis Ng Chi-wa, Director of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, expressed his enthusiasm for the rapid progress of this collaboration. The signed memorandum of understanding outlines comprehensive plans for future collaborations. Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Director of the Islamic Civilization Center, emphasized the historical significance of the Silk Road in connecting these cultures, facilitating not only trade but also the exchange of innovative ideas. He also articulated the center's ambition to showcase its exhibitions beyond Uzbekistan, reaching audiences in Hong Kong and other global cities.

Farhod Arziev, Uzbekistan's ambassador to China, spoke to the profound importance of the Islamic Civilization Center. Looking ahead, there is anticipation that the Hong Kong Palace Museum's collection may be featured in a special exhibition in Uzbekistan in October.
