Keyland Drops Third Album 'Knuckle Sandwich,' Announces Tour

Keyland, the dynamic Oklahoma-based Red Dirt ensemble, has been steadily building its presence over the last year, culminating in the release of their third studio album, “Knuckle Sandwich.” This latest offering, their first since 2023, is a significant milestone for the band as it also marks their debut in physical format, moving beyond streaming-only releases.
Keyland's Musical Journey and New Album Details
Founded and led by Kyle Ross, a multi-talented individual who balances his musical career with roles as an assistant high school football coach and an English teacher in Bixby, a suburb of Tulsa, Keyland has cultivated a devoted fan base across Oklahoma. Their reputation is built on high-energy live shows and a songwriting approach that deeply connects with listeners’ emotions. The new album, “Knuckle Sandwich,” immediately sets a strong tone with its opening track, “Cannonball,” featuring potent lyrics that hint at the album’s raw and honest themes. Ross describes the album’s core as revolving around the complexities of decision-making, the paralysis of indecision, and a perception of love that can sometimes feel like a sharp impact. Musically, he notes, the record is a vibrant fusion, exploring various elements of country, rock, and Americana genres.
The creation of “Knuckle Sandwich” took place at the acclaimed Sonic Ranch, an analog studio nestled just outside El Paso, Texas. This recording haven, situated near the Mexico border, has also been the birthplace of significant albums for artists like Koe Wetzel, Vandoliers, Waxahatchee, and American Aquarium. Ross, who has recorded most of Keyland’s music there since 2023, speaks of the studio as a truly magical and inspiring location. Keyland’s growing recognition has been further amplified by their opportunities to open for prominent acts such as American Aquarium, the Droptines, and the Josh Abbott Band. A notable performance alongside the Josh Abbott Band at Tulsa’s iconic Cain’s Ballroom in June 2025 contributed to a burgeoning local enthusiasm for Keyland’s sound. The band has also become a regular fixture at the Mercury Lounge, a vibrant hub for Red Dirt music in Tulsa.
As the summer unfolds, before Ross’s return to his coaching duties, Keyland is scheduled to join the Texas group Uncle Lucius for a series of performances. This tour will take them through the picturesque landscapes of Colorado, Montana, and their home state of Oklahoma, with anticipated stops at celebrated Colorado venues like the Belly Up Aspen and the Fox Theater in Boulder.
Ross’s methodical approach to his musical career has led to a pivotal moment with “Knuckle Sandwich.” Unlike his previous two studio albums and various EPs, which were exclusively available on streaming platforms, this release will offer fans tangible vinyl copies at their merchandise table. Ross expresses his excitement about this new chapter, highlighting the satisfaction of a "blue-collar, ma-and-pa" distribution method where he personally sends albums to fans who provide their addresses. His ambition is clear: to expand their touring schedule and widely share the compelling message and sound of “Knuckle Sandwich.”
From the meticulous crafting of their music to the grassroots distribution of their latest album, Keyland’s journey epitomizes the dedication and passion inherent in the Red Dirt music scene. Their narrative, blending the ordinary with the extraordinary—a high school coach by day, a rock star by night—serves as an inspiring testament to pursuing one’s artistic vision. The band’s commitment to authentic songwriting and energetic performances ensures they will continue to carve out a distinctive and impactful presence in the evolving landscape of contemporary music. Their story reminds us that true artistry often blossoms at the intersection of everyday life and profound creative expression.
