Leica Unveils Latest Innovations: The SL3-P Camera and New Lenses

Experience the Evolution of Imaging: Precision Meets Performance
Leica's Flagship Full-Frame: The SL3-P Camera
The new SL3-P stands as Leica's most advanced full-frame camera to date, building upon the legacy of the SL system introduced in 2015. It incorporates a powerful 44-megapixel BSI sensor, delivering exceptional image quality with a dynamic range extending up to 14 aperture stops. This camera is engineered to capture intricate details and vibrant colors in a variety of challenging lighting conditions.
Advanced Autofocus and High-Speed Performance
The SL3-P introduces a sophisticated autofocus system that integrates phase detection (PDAF), object detection (depth mapping), and contrast detection technologies. This hybrid AF system, featuring 819 AF points, ensures swift and precise focusing. Photographers can also take advantage of an impressive burst rate of 40 frames per second with continuous autofocus, making it ideal for capturing fast-moving subjects.
Unleashing Creative Possibilities: Video and User Experience Enhancements
Beyond still photography, the SL3-P excels in video capabilities, offering resolutions up to 8.1K Open Gate in 3:2 format at 24p, and 8K at 30p. It supports HDMI RAW 8K Open Gate and the Apple ProRes codec up to 5.8K. The camera also includes new in-camera LUTs (Leica Pure and Leica Cine) and a user interface that intelligently adapts to the camera's orientation. With native tethering support for Lightroom Classic and Capture One, alongside Frame.io integration and Content Credentials technology, the SL3-P is a comprehensive tool for modern content creators.
Refined Design and Durability
In terms of aesthetics, the SL3-P features a minimalist design, opting out of the traditional red Leica logo for a sleeker look. Its robust body boasts an IP54 rating, ensuring resilience against dust and splashes. The redesigned menu and icon system, featuring color-coded indicators for photo (red) and video (yellow) modes, enhances user-friendliness and streamlines workflow.
Introducing the Summilux-SL 50mm f1.4 ASPH Lens
Accompanying the SL3-P are two new lenses, starting with the Summilux-SL 50mm f1.4 ASPH. This compact lens, weighing just 584g with a 74mm diameter, offers exceptional optical performance. It features 11 aperture blades, two aspherical lens elements, and a close focusing distance of 50cm. Equipped with an E67 filter thread, a durable metal construction, and AquaDura coating, it is built for reliability in diverse environments.
The Reimagined APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm f2.8 Lens
Leica pays homage to a classic with the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm f2.8, a lens designed for the SL system that delivers outstanding macro capabilities. With a close focus distance of 30cm and a 1:1 maximum reproduction ratio, it is perfect for detailed close-up photography. This 9-bladed aperture lens measures 137.6mm and weighs 862g. Interestingly, this lens, made in Japan, shares similarities with Panasonic's 100mm f2.8 macro lens, a testament to the L-mount alliance's collaborative efforts.
