Leonardo Drew Joins Hauser & Wirth for Global Representation

Prominent sculptor Leonardo Drew has officially partnered with Hauser & Wirth, a move that will see the acclaimed gallery represent his work globally. This collaboration was publicly announced recently, with Drew's new creation, 'Number 451', slated for its first public showing at the upcoming Art Basel event. Art enthusiasts can anticipate Drew's inaugural solo exhibition with Hauser & Wirth in New York during the fall of 2027.

For more than four decades, Drew has distinguished himself through his remarkable ability to transform discarded items such as aged wood, various metals, and paper into expansive sculptures and installations. His art consistently delves into the concepts of degradation, renewal, and the inexorable march of time. His significant contributions to contemporary art are recognized through their inclusion in the esteemed collections of institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the Tate.

This strategic alliance positions Drew, one of the art world's most sought-after figures, within the expansive network of one of the globe's premier galleries. This comes at a time when Drew's visibility and influence are steadily increasing, underscored by recent major museum showcases and large-scale public installations, including the notable 'City in the Grass' in New York's Madison Square Park. Born in Tallahassee, Florida, and nurtured in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Drew displayed artistic promise from a young age, holding his first exhibition at just 13. His artistic journey was further honed at Cooper Union, under the mentorship of artist Jack Whitten, where he cultivated the unique visual language that would cement his status as a pivotal artist in contemporary American art. Today, Drew divides his time and creative practice between his studios in Brooklyn and San Antonio.

This partnership not only elevates Drew's international presence but also underscores the enduring power of art to provoke thought and inspire change. His unique approach to material and theme continues to captivate and challenge audiences, reminding us of the cyclical nature of existence and the potential for beauty in transformation.
