Light Lens Lab Debuts 35mm f/2 Apochromatic Lens in New High-Performance Lineup
Light Lens Lab has launched its latest photographic innovation, the 35mm f/2 Apochromatic lens, heralding the beginning of its new High-Performance Series. This product signifies a fresh direction for the company, known for its re-imaginations of vintage optics, as it embarks on developing entirely new optical designs focusing on cutting-edge chromatic aberration correction and superior image quality.
This new 35mm f/2 Apochromatic lens is not merely an update but a completely original design, conceived from the ground up as part of the company's 'High-Performance Optical Research Project.' It aims to set a new standard for optical excellence by delivering exceptional sharpness, meticulous distortion control, and consistent performance from the center to the edges of the frame. Furthermore, Light Lens Lab emphasizes the lens's ability to produce pleasing out-of-focus areas and smooth transitions, contributing to a natural and artistic aesthetic in imagery.
Constructed with an intricate optical system, the lens features 11 elements arranged in six groups. This sophisticated configuration includes four aspherical elements and several crafted from ultra-low-dispersion and anomalous partial-dispersion glass, all designed to minimize optical imperfections. A new multilayer coating further enhances performance by mitigating fringing and flare, while an 11-bladed aperture contributes to attractive bokeh. The manual-focus lens, compatible with Leica M-Mounts, offers a close-focusing distance of 0.3 meters, expandable even further on certain rangefinder cameras.
Light Lens Lab is offering the lens in two distinct barrel designs to cater to diverse user preferences. The 'smooth barrel' version provides a sleek, minimalist exterior, appealing to those who prefer an uncluttered aesthetic. Conversely, a version with close-focus knurling offers enhanced tactile feedback and grip, particularly beneficial for precise close-up adjustments. While the external ergonomics differ, the internal optical components remain identical across both versions. The smooth barrel model will be the first to ship, with the knurled version following a few months later.
The lens is available in both aluminum and titanium variants. The aluminum version, offered in Black Paint and Silver Chrome finishes, weighs approximately 327 grams, including the lens hood. A limited-edition Titanium Gray model, slightly heavier at 360 grams, will also be available for a restricted pre-order period, with production quantities determined by initial demand. This strategic release plan underscores Light Lens Lab's commitment to both innovation and catering to enthusiast needs.
