Light Lens Lab Unveils Revolutionary 75mm f/1.5 "Z21" Prime Lens with Original Optical Design

Light Lens Lab has recently announced the launch of its innovative 75mm f/1.5 “Z21” lens, a manual focus mid-telephoto portrait prime specifically designed for Leica M-Mount camera systems. This new offering marks a significant departure from the company’s previous designs, as it represents an entirely new optical creation, rather than a replication of a classic lens. This development underscores the brand’s commitment to pioneering optical solutions.

Light Lens Lab Unveils Next-Generation 75mm f/1.5 “Z21” Prime Lens

In a notable stride forward for optical engineering, Light Lens Lab proudly introduced its 75mm f/1.5 “Z21” lens on June 4th, an advanced manual focus mid-telephoto prime lens crafted for Leica M-Mount cameras. This latest innovation distinguishes itself from its acclaimed predecessor, the 50mm f/1.5 “Z21,” which earned accolades from PetaPixel for its unique charm and character, by being an entirely original optical conception. Unlike the 50mm version, which meticulously recreated a rare and costly 1950s P. Angenieux S21 50mm f/1.5 lens, the 75mm f/1.5 “Z21” is a testament to Light Lens Lab’s independent design prowess, born from an in-depth study of the distinctive “Z21” rendering style. This lens is built with an elegant yet robust aluminum alloy body, finished in a matte black paint, and measures approximately 71 millimeters in length, weighing about 454 grams. It accommodates 55mm filters and features a 10-bladed aperture diaphragm, offering a focus range from one meter to infinity. A key highlight is the inclusion of a Lanthanide-infused optical element, a characteristic shared with its 50mm counterpart. Light Lens Lab emphasizes that this new lens addresses crucial feedback from the photographic community, incorporating enhancements such as superior corner sharpness, exceptional edge-to-edge resolution, and an expanded image circle. These improvements ensure optimal full-frame performance, even when adapted for use with non-M-Mount camera systems, making it a versatile tool for professional photographers and enthusiasts alike. The 75mm f/1.5 “Z21” lens is available for preorder at a price of $999, with shipping anticipated to commence on June 30th.

The introduction of the 75mm f/1.5 “Z21” signifies a pivotal moment for Light Lens Lab, demonstrating their capability to innovate beyond vintage reproductions. This lens not only expands their product line but also reinforces their dedication to meeting the evolving demands of photographers by delivering unique optical characteristics and enhanced performance. The positive community response and the strategic design choices indicate a bright future for Light Lens Lab in the competitive lens market.
