Lo & Co's Duet Collection: A Harmonious Blend of Mixed Metals for Home Decor

Historically, strict rules dictated design choices, particularly concerning metallic finishes in both fashion and interiors. Just as mixing gold and silver jewelry was once a style misstep, using different metal finishes in home decor was often avoided. However, contemporary aesthetics are embracing a more fluid and integrated approach. Australian brand Lo & Co, in collaboration with SMAC Studio, has pioneered the "Duet Collection," an innovative line of architectural hardware that celebrates the art of combining brushed brass and polished nickel. This collection reimagines how diverse materials can coexist, creating depth and visual interest in living spaces, much like a carefully curated ensemble of fine jewelry.

The Debut of the Duet Collection: Redefining Metallic Harmony

On a bright day in July 2026, Lo & Co, a prominent Australian architectural hardware brand, unveiled its groundbreaking Duet Collection. This marks their first venture into mixed-metal designs, developed in partnership with Melbourne-based SMAC Studio. The collection spans various hardware elements, including elegant cabinet pulls, sophisticated knobs, and ergonomically designed levers. The inspiration for this fusion of brushed brass and polished nickel originated from the founders' Arielle Lopresti and Teegan Cocchiaro's visit to Milan Design Week. They observed a growing trend of mixed metals in Italian interiors, particularly impressed by designer Vincenzo De Cotiis' daring material combinations in his Milan apartment. This experience, coupled with the resurgence of mixed-metal jewelry, solidified their vision for the Duet Collection. The designers focused on how different finishes interact with light and proportion, carefully balancing texture and reflectivity. They intentionally chose a highly polished nickel and a softly brushed brass, ensuring neither finish overpowered the other, but instead, enhanced the overall aesthetic. Shona McElroy, founder of SMAC Studio, contributed her long-standing interest in two-toned hardware, with her initial sketches guiding the collection's jewelry-inspired direction. Lo & Co then meticulously refined the designs, perfecting their forms, proportions, and finishes to achieve the exquisite final product family. The Duet Collection challenges the notion that design cohesion demands uniformity, advocating for a thoughtful blend of metals to enrich a space.

The introduction of the Duet Collection is more than just a product launch; it's a philosophical statement. It encourages homeowners to break free from traditional design constraints and explore the creative possibilities that arise from mixing metals. This collection inspires confidence, urging individuals to infuse their personal spaces with character and sophistication through thoughtful material juxtaposition. Lo & Co hopes this innovative line will not only redefine their brand's design language but also empower customers to embrace a more adventurous and personalized approach to home decor.
