Before his mainstream acting breakthroughs, Grimes was cast in a television pilot titled Outlaw Country, where he played a country songwriter entangled in criminal activities. Although the pilot never progressed to a full series, it offered Grimes a pivotal opportunity. Approximately 15 years ago, during the filming of Outlaw Country in Nashville, he was encouraged to write and record original songs for the show.
