MultiDyne Acquires MRMC, a Key Player in Motion Control Technology

Mark Roberts Motion Control (MRMC), a leading innovator in motion-control camera systems, has recently found a new proprietor after its former owner, Nikon, decided to divest the company. MultiDyne Video and Fiber Optics Systems, a specialist in signal conversion and fiber optics, has stepped in to acquire MRMC's assets, subsequently forming MultiDyne Robotics and Motion Control, which will continue to operate under the well-recognized MRMC brand.

This significant change occurred swiftly following Nikon's decision to offload MRMC, a company celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026, which Nikon initially acquired in September 2016. While Nikon had envisioned leveraging MRMC's expertise in robotics and motion control to expand into new imaging product categories, producing notable innovations like the Cinebot Max and robotic camera heads, the venture did not prove financially successful. Recent financial disclosures revealed that MRMC had incurred substantial operating losses, estimated at around £26 million (approximately $34.4 million), prompting Nikon to divest its interest, incurring a loss of 3.2 billion yen (around $19.77 million) in the process. For a brief period, MRMC was under the ownership of British private equity firm Blandford Capital before MultiDyne finalized its acquisition.

The acquisition by MultiDyne is viewed as a positive turning point for MRMC by industry observers, who believe it offers the company a chance to regain its stature in the professional cinema sector. MultiDyne has secured MRMC's technology, intellectual property, manufacturing capabilities, and engineering talent, with plans for MRMC to maintain its operational base in the United Kingdom. Neil Maycock of MultiDyne will lead the reinvigorated MRMC as its Managing Director, emphasizing continuity for existing clients and partners while aiming for future expansion through MultiDyne's extensive global sales network and strategic investments.

This strategic acquisition by MultiDyne underscores a commitment to fostering innovation and leadership in specialized camera technology. It paves the way for a renewed focus on product quality and customer success, promising to bring forward-thinking solutions to the filmmaking industry and solidify MRMC's position as a pivotal player in advanced motion control and robotics.
