Pat Perry's 'Liminal Bingo': An Interactive Photography Adventure

Pat Perry, an artist from Detroit, has launched an engaging new photography initiative called “Liminal Bingo.” This project invites individuals of all ages, from diverse locations, to participate in a unique treasure hunt through their local environments. It encourages a departure from routine, prompting participants to venture outdoors, collaborate with companions, and actively seek out distinctive scenes within their neighborhoods.

The core concept of “Liminal Bingo” is straightforward yet profound: participants are tasked with using a camera, whether a smartphone or a film camera, to photograph specific prompts provided by Perry. The goal is to collect five consecutive photos that align with these artistic cues, thereby achieving a “bingo.” However, the instructions extend beyond mere photography, emphasizing human connection; they encourage interactions with strangers and sharing experiences, such as capturing a handshake with an unfamiliar person or sending a landscape image to a distant loved one, followed by evidence of the interaction.

This initiative not only serves as a creative outlet but also as a catalyst for social engagement and exploration. Submissions received by August will be considered for an upcoming exhibition at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York, as well as for inclusion in a prospective publication. Further details on participation and frequently asked questions are available on the project's dedicated website. “Liminal Bingo” transcends traditional art forms, transforming everyday environments into canvases for collaborative discovery and shared human experience, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for the subtle beauty in our surroundings.
