Pearla Unveils Next-Gen iPhone Camera Tech: 14-bit RAW Capture and New App Ecosystem

Pearla Mostra has unveiled a major advancement in mobile photography and videography with the latest iteration of its professional iPhone camera application, Pearla Verana IV. This update introduces innovative 14-bit RAW capture capabilities, setting a new standard for internal recording on Apple's mobile devices. The release also marks a strategic restructuring, with the Pearla suite of applications now operating under the newly formed Swiss company, Pearla Mostra, alongside the introduction of two complementary apps: Revela, a sophisticated editing platform, and Joya, designed for casual users.

Revolutionizing Mobile Imaging: Pearla's Vision for Unprecedented Quality and Accessibility

Pearla's Strategic Evolution: From House of Mars to Pearla Mostra

Developer Guy Cassidy's innovative work on Pearla, originally under House of Mars, has evolved into a dedicated enterprise. The entire Pearla application family has transitioned to a new corporate entity, Pearla Mostra, a Swiss-based company. While House of Mars continues its operations with its own product lines, Pearla Mostra is now the exclusive home for all Pearla-branded software solutions.

Pearla Verana IV: Leading the Charge with Advanced iPhone Camera Features

The newly named Pearla Verana IV builds upon its predecessor's reputation as a top-tier iPhone camera application. It maintains its core strengths, such as advanced film emulation, precise color rendering, and support for log and RAW formats. This latest version significantly enhances these functionalities while introducing several novel capabilities that push the boundaries of mobile imaging.

Unlocking 14-bit RAW: The Groundbreaking PearlaRAW Technology

A standout innovation in Pearla Verana IV is PearlaRAW. This feature is touted as the first and only method to natively capture 14-bit RAW still images and record 14-bit RAW video directly on an iPhone, without requiring external storage. This capability distinguishes PearlaRAW from Apple's existing ProRes RAW (12-bit, external storage only) and ProRAW (10-bit, stills only) formats, as well as the 12-bit Bayer RAW used by many third-party apps.

Enhanced Capture Options: Speed, Control, and Creative Flexibility

PearlaRAW enables Pearla Verana IV to record 14-bit RAW files at speeds up to 25 frames per second, or 12-bit RAW at 14 frames per second, with pre-capture functionality. This level of performance, previously found only in high-end mirrorless cameras, is now accessible on an iPhone. The app also introduces a shutter priority exposure mode for precise control over motion blur and an intervalometer for both still photography and video recording.

Pioneering Color Science: RealHUE 2 and Pearla Wide Gamut (PWG)

Color precision remains a cornerstone of Pearla Verana IV. The RealHUE 2 system provides advanced on-device color fine-tuning. Pearla maintains its unique position as the only iPhone camera app with individual color calibration for each supported device. The introduction of Pearla Wide Gamut (PWG), a new working color space, supports log recording, film emulation, HDR, RAW, and custom color profiles, engineered to align with human visual perception for unparalleled color accuracy.

Visual Embellishments and Expanded Log Support for Filmmakers

Pearla Verana IV integrates a new film emulation engine that introduces realistic luminance-aware grain and halation, operating in real time even for 4Kp60 video. This update also expands its compatibility with professional log profiles, adding Apple Log 2, DJI D-Log, and Insta360 I-Log to its existing support for S-Log3, LogC3, C-Log3, F-Log/F-Log2, V-Log, N-Log, and Blackmagic Film Gen 5.

Comprehensive Tools for Video Professionals

Video creators will benefit from new features such as real-time spatial audio mixing, false color monitoring, and a speech-activated teleprompter. The app also incorporates a streamlined version of Pearla Revela's RAW editing capabilities, a quick menu for efficient adjustments, remote capture functionality via a second iPhone or Apple Watch, Tilta Nucleus-M support, and cloud synchronization for profiles, settings, and media.

Introducing Pearla Joya: Effortless Photography for Everyone

Alongside the professional-grade Verana IV, Pearla Mostra debuts Pearla Joya, an intuitive camera app designed for everyday use. Joya offers the superior image quality and audio performance of Verana without the complexity of manual controls, targeting content creators who prioritize simplicity.

Simplicity Meets Quality: Joya's Approach to Mobile Photography

Joya is crafted for ease of use, mirroring the simplicity of the iPhone's native camera app. It foregoes advanced codecs and monitoring tools but retains Pearla Verana's RealHUE 2 color engine, authentic film emulation with grain and halation, and open gate recording. Joya is not a filter-based app, ensuring high-quality results for all users.

Subscription and Availability for New Pearla Apps

Pearla Joya is currently in beta for existing Pearla III subscribers. The official launch is scheduled for August, with an annual subscription cost of $24.99.
