ProGrade Digital's Next-Gen CFexpress Cards Boast Dual VPG Certification for Professional Use

ProGrade Digital has unveiled its latest innovations in storage technology: the Iridium-series CFexpress 4.0 Type A memory cards. These new offerings come in higher capacities of 512GB and 1TB, building upon the company's previous 480GB and 960GB CFexpress 4.0 Type A Iridium versions. A key feature distinguishing these cards is their dual VPG certification, ensuring top-tier performance for professional applications.
These advanced memory cards utilize a PCIe Gen 4 interconnect and an NVMe 1.4c controller interface, enabling remarkably fast data transfer. Users can expect impressive read speeds of up to 1,800 MB/s and write speeds reaching up to 1,700 MB/s. Crucially, they maintain sustained write speeds of up to 1,500 MB/s, which is vital for demanding tasks like high-resolution video capture.
A significant highlight is the dual VPG400 and VPG800 certifications. This rigorous testing guarantees that the cards will consistently deliver a minimum write speed of 800 MB/s, even under intense operational conditions. This reliability makes them an excellent choice for professional filmmakers working with RAW video formats, where consistent performance is paramount. While no current Sony cameras demand VPG800 certification for their video recording modes, these cards are designed to be "future-proof," anticipating the needs of upcoming camera technologies.
Wes Brewer, CEO and founder of ProGrade Digital, emphasized that these new Iridium cards are developed to meet emerging standards, ensuring full compatibility with existing cameras while also being prepared for the next generation of imaging technology. He noted that while cameras supporting both VPG Profiles 4 and 5 are not yet available, these cards are built to accommodate them.
It's important to understand that while these cards are CFexpress 4.0-compliant, the full speed benefits of this standard are currently realized primarily during data transfer via a compatible CFexpress 4.0 card reader and a sufficiently fast USB cable. However, the cards are fully backward compatible with the CFexpress 2.0 standard, making them immediately usable with current digital cameras. ProGrade also incorporates features such as thermal throttling to prevent overheating, laser-etched serial numbers for component tracking, X-ray-proof and shockproof construction, and a three-year warranty, highlighting their robust design and reliability.
The new ProGrade Digital CFexpress 4.0 Type A Iridium cards with dual VPG certification are now available for purchase. The 512GB model is priced at $569.99, and the 1TB version is available for $949.99. These cards offer a compelling solution for photographers and videographers seeking high-performance, durable, and future-ready storage for their creative endeavors.
