Saul Williams Announces New Album 'Leap Life,' Featuring Esteemed Collaborators

Saul Williams, a renowned figure across poetry, acting, directing, singing, and graphic novel writing, has revealed plans for his latest album, "Leap Life." This highly anticipated release, scheduled for August 28 under the Big Dada label, marks his first musical endeavor in seven years. The record features an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Robert Del Naja from Massive Attack, Kamasi Washington, Carlos Niño, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Surya Botofasina. Gonjasufi and Moor Mother also lend their talents to the album's lead single, "Conspiracy."

Williams conceptualizes "Leap Life" as a dialogue with ancestors, a perspective shaped by ongoing global conflicts and humanitarian crises in regions such as Palestine, Sudan, Haiti, Congo, and Yemen. He articulated in a statement that "We're going to need those spirits," highlighting a belief in unseen allies. He emphasizes that the individuals involved in various struggles extend beyond those visibly present, suggesting a deeper, perhaps spiritual, support system at play.

The album "Leap Life" features a tracklist that includes: "Baobab Constellation," "Mazahua," "I Think I Get It Now," "Great, Great-Grandmother," "The Dagger," "Controlled Is Not Controllable," "13 Moons," "Une Photographie," "Not Everything For Sale," "Robot Slave," "Conspiracy," "Vengeful Spirit," "Friends I Ain't Met Yet," and "Coming Forth." This collection promises to be a profound exploration of themes close to Williams' heart, reflecting his unique artistic vision and commitment to engaging with contemporary issues through his music.
