Tilta has recently unveiled its innovative Illusion Magnetic Filter Ultimate Kit, a modular magnetic filter ecosystem crafted to enhance the efficiency and ease with which cinematographers and still photographers can assemble and interchange filter setups in diverse shooting environments. This advanced system is engineered to streamline the process, offering a practical solution for creative professionals seeking optimal performance and flexibility.
Central to this system is a rapid magnetic attachment mechanism that integrates several frequently utilized filter functionalities into a more compact physical design. This strategic consolidation aims to diminish the necessity for stacking multiple filters, thereby mitigating common optical challenges such as peripheral darkening and undesirable color deviations, while simultaneously accelerating operational speed during on-location productions.
The core of the system revolves around a series of magnetic circular polarizer filters, which can be effortlessly affixed to accompanying 77mm and 82mm adapter rings. Tilta emphasizes that this system is tailored to expedite filter adjustments in dynamic scenarios without compromising image fidelity or artistic versatility. The Illusion ecosystem offers three distinct circular polarizer variations, each specifically designed to cater to different creative requirements. The standard Circular Polarizer effectively diminishes reflections and glare from surfaces like water and glass, preserving natural color saturation and contrast. A second variant incorporates a built-in five-stop neutral density layer, merging polarization and exposure control into a single optical element, which further reduces the need for additional filter stacking. The third option combines the polarizer with a Black Mist 1/4 diffusion effect, which softens highlight transitions and subtly lowers overall contrast, lending a more cinematic and atmospheric quality to the visual output.
A significant advantage of this system is the Rotatability of all three filter versions post-mounting, allowing for precise calibration of polarization intensity to match prevailing lighting conditions and reflective surfaces. Furthermore, when paired with Tilta’s VND Adapter module, these filters can achieve variable neutral density configurations. Utilizing the standard CPL with the VND Adapter provides a 1-to-5-stop range, while integrating the CPL with the ND32 version extends this control to a versatile 6-to-10-stop range.
