Tokyo Gendai Unveils Extensive Exhibitor List for Fourth Edition

The prestigious Tokyo Gendai art fair is gearing up for its highly anticipated fourth iteration, set to captivate art enthusiasts with a diverse array of contemporary works. This year's event will feature an impressive lineup of 63 galleries from across the globe, showcasing a rich tapestry of artistic talent and innovation.

Tokyo Gendai: A Gateway to Global Contemporary Art in Asia

A Glimpse into the Core: Main Galleries Sector

The main Galleries section will host a distinguished roster of 17 exhibitors, featuring prominent names such as Pace Gallery, Sadie Coles HQ, Ceysson & Bénétière, Mizuma Art Gallery, A Lighthouse called Kanata, and Taka Ishii Gallery. These esteemed galleries are known for their significant contributions to the international art scene, presenting a wide spectrum of contemporary art forms.

Exploring Emerging Talents: The Hana and Eda Sections

Nearly half of the participating galleries will be featured in the Hana ("Flower") section, dedicated to showcasing early- and mid-career artists. This vibrant section includes Tokyo-based galleries like AWASE Gallery, CON_, Gallery Common, Harukaito by Island, Maki Gallery, and Misa Shin Gallery. International representation will also be strong, with Lett Thomas from Auckland, New Zealand; La Bibi Gallery from Mexico City and Palma de Mallorca, Spain; and W-Galería from Buenos Aires and Pueblo Garzón, Uruguay, highlighting a global perspective on emerging art. The Eda ("Branch") section will present two distinguished exhibitors: Ippodo Gallery and Mizoe Art Gallery.

Innovation in Art: The Tane and Miki Sections

The Tane ("Seed") section, now in its second year, focuses on digital media, encompassing NFTs, animation, film, AR, VR, and gaming. This forward-thinking section will feature five exhibitors, notably including TAEX, which will present a captivating Marina Abramović avatar project. Furthermore, Tokyo Gendai introduces a brand new section this year called Miki ("Trunk"), which will specifically highlight works on paper and photography. This new addition will feature dealers such as Bangkok CityCity Gallery, Fabrik Projects, and Revolver Galeria, promising fresh perspectives and diverse mediums.

Refining the Experience: Fair Structure and Vision

While the overall number of exhibitors is slightly lower than the previous 2025 edition, which featured 66 galleries, the strategic restructuring of the fair's sectors marks a significant evolution. The main galleries sector, for instance, has been refined to 17 exhibitors from 29, demonstrating a curated approach to presentation. Notably, some high-profile international galleries, including Almine Rech, Galerie Eva Presenhuber, Gallery Baton, and Galerie Eigen + Art, will not be returning this year. Magnus Renfrew, co-founder of Tokyo Gendai, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming edition, stating that the fair continues to underscore Japan's crucial role in the global cultural landscape and art market. He emphasized Tokyo Gendai's mission to foster cross-cultural exchange and provide an international platform for experiencing the depth and quality of contemporary art in Japan.
