Busta Rhymes to Receive Icon Award at Anti Social Camp

Busta Rhymes, the acclaimed rapper celebrated for his agile lyricism and unique melodic style in iconic tracks such as “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check” and “Gimme Some More,” will be presented with the annual ICON Award at the upcoming New York City songwriting gathering, Anti Social Camp. This esteemed accolade acknowledges his significant contributions to the art of songwriting.
The prestigious event will commence on June 8 with the iHeartRadio Anti Social Music Conference, where Rhymes will accept his award and engage in a live discussion about his songwriting journey. This conference, open to the public upon registration through New York Music Month, will be held at NYU Steinhardt’s Frederick Loewe Theater. Following the kickoff, the Anti Social Camp will continue through June 12, offering recording sessions, panel discussions, and various public engagements across the city. Busta Rhymes expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the importance of songwriting as a medium for artists to convey their feelings and messages. He praised Anti Social Camp for providing a nurturing environment where songwriters can thrive creatively. The lineup for this year’s camp includes notable artists like experimental R&B vocalist serpentwithfeet, Erick the Architect from Flatbush Zombies, and indie act Pom Pom Squad, alongside approximately 200 other songwriters, producers, and performers.
Initiated in 2021 by songwriter Danny Ross, Anti Social Camp emerged from a New York producers’ collective during the pandemic. Ross highlighted the organization’s mission to cultivate a sense of community among those who craft beloved songs, emphasizing its artist-centric foundation. The camp has seen considerable growth, including a London edition launched last autumn featuring headliners such as Jamie Cullum and Billy Bragg, with another U.K. session planned for mid-November. Previous participants include a diverse array of talents like Nile Rodgers, PinkPantheress, Jacob Collier, and Ava Max. This year’s camp is supported by key partners including TIDAL, TikTok, Suno, Jack Daniel’s, BMI, ASCAP, UnitedMasters, and the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, which has integrated the camp into its annual New York Music Month programming. Venues such as Chelsea Studios, Berklee NYC’s Power Station, and Flux Studios will host sessions, while public events are scheduled at Music Hall of Williamsburg and Public Records, with a comprehensive schedule of public events to be announced shortly.
This initiative not only celebrates established legends like Busta Rhymes but also empowers a new generation of musical talent. By fostering collaboration and providing a platform for education and artistic expression, Anti Social Camp embodies the spirit of innovation and community within the music industry. It highlights the enduring power of lyrics and melodies to connect, inspire, and shape culture, demonstrating that true artistry transcends time and trends.
