From a tender age of five, Lauren Rottet displayed an innate designer's sensibility, meticulously crafting treehouses and excavating lakes in her childhood backyard in Waco, Texas. This early engagement with spatial construction laid the foundation for her future career. Upon relocating to Houston, the city's towering skyline captivated her, though she often found the interiors of corporate buildings to be uninspired. Years later, as an architect at SOM, Rottet remarkably returned to these very same downtown structures, transforming their internal environments to match the grandeur of their exteriors.
Forging a Legacy: Rottet Studio and the Rottet Collection
In 2008, Rottet embarked on an entrepreneurial path, founding Rottet Studio. This venture has since grown into a powerhouse, delivering over 90 million square feet of built design across the globe. Her signature style, characterized by a blend of contemporary luxury, is evident in her extensive portfolio, which includes prestigious hotel properties, opulent private residences, and innovative ship designs. Expanding her creative empire, Rottet launched the Rottet Collection in 2017, a furniture line designed to seamlessly integrate with her interior projects. I am the proud owner of a faithful replica of the 1962 Montauk home, originally designed by George Nelson and Gordon Chadwick. This architectural marvel was meticulously reconstructed by the son of the initial owners, utilizing the authentic blueprints, built-in millwork, lighting fixtures, and a selection of original furnishings. This residence stands as a prime example of mid-century modern design, where visionaries like Nelson and the Eameses expertly incorporated organic forms to foster a profound connection between humans and the natural world. Each room in this home is thoughtfully designed as a hexagon, a testament to the efficiency and elegance of this geometric shape.

The Inspiring Power of Beaches
The profound contrast between the world's interconnectedness and the serene tranquility found at beaches is a constant source of inspiration and empowerment for me. Gazing upon the endless expanse of light and dark blues, interspersed with hints of golden sunlight or subtle gray clouds, brings a profound sense of calm that allows my mind to wander freely and generate new ideas. I invariably return from the coast feeling invigorated and brimming with fresh perspectives. While all beaches offer inspiration, not all provide the same level of relaxation. Some evoke awe, others spur action, and a select few offer true solace. For me, achieving a state of complete relaxation at a beach requires a certain familiarity and understanding of its unique character.

Although its aesthetic now vastly differs from the original, the renovation skillfully preserved the essence of one of Houston's notable modern structures. Our design approach passionately embraces the modernist principle of seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a fluid and harmonious living environment.
