Micky Dolenz to Release New EP 'Timeless' to Celebrate The Monkees' 60th Anniversary

On September 12, 1966, 'The Monkees' television series debuted on NBC, carving its unique niche in pop culture history. While other shows of its era have faded or are perpetually re-aired, the legacy of The Monkees continues to evolve. Micky Dolenz, the sole surviving original member, carries forward the group's musical journey after the passing of Davy Jones, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith.

To commemorate the band's upcoming 60th anniversary, Dolenz is scheduled to release a new six-track EP, 'Timeless', on September 4th. The lead single, 'Terri', penned by Paul Westerberg of The Replacements, is already available for listeners. This project saw collaboration with esteemed producers John Hughes, Pete Donnelly, and Sam Hollander, who previously contributed to the acclaimed 50th-anniversary album, 'Good Times!'. Dolenz, emphasizing his trust in his production team, likens his role to Frank Sinatra working with Quincy Jones, focusing on delegating creative responsibilities to ensure a fresh yet authentic sound.

The EP features a diverse array of songwriters, including Andy Partridge, Shelby Lynne, and the late Adam Schlesinger. Recorded efficiently over a few days in New York and Nashville, 'Timeless' incorporates veteran musicians from The Monkees' touring ensemble, such as Rich Dart, Wayne Avers, Alex Jules, and Coco Dolenz, Micky's sister, who contributes vocals to 'Waiting for Day'. Dolenz's commitment to releasing an EP rather than a full album reflects a contemporary understanding of music consumption, prioritizing a curated selection of exceptional songs. At 81, Dolenz maintains his vocal dexterity through disciplined training and a strategic touring schedule, ensuring his performances remain vibrant and engaging.

Micky Dolenz's continued dedication to music, epitomized by the 'Timeless' EP and ongoing tours, highlights the enduring power of artistic passion. His ability to adapt to changing industry landscapes while honoring his musical roots serves as an inspiration, proving that creativity and hard work can sustain a legacy for generations to come. It underscores the importance of embracing new collaborations and approaches, demonstrating that a commitment to quality and a love for one's craft can lead to perpetual renewal and relevance.
