His representatives have made it unequivocally clear that the filmmakers do not possess the necessary life rights or music rights to proceed, characterizing any continued production as both legally and professionally ill-advised.

The Narrative Through Another's Eyes: Manager Irwin Mazur's Perspective

In light of Billy Joel's non-participation, "Billy & Me" will reportedly present the story of his early career through the experiences of Irwin Mazur, Joel's inaugural manager. Mazur, who first discovered Joel in 1966 and signed him in 1970, played a crucial role in securing his recording contract with Columbia Records in 1972, a pivotal step towards his eventual global stardom. The production has successfully acquired Mazur's exclusive life rights, along with those of Jon Small, Joel's long-time friend, drummer, and video director, who will serve as a consultant and co-executive producer.

The screenplay for "Billy & Me" is being penned by filmmaker Adam Ripp, with his company, ArtPhyl Pictures, undertaking the production.
