Overmono Announces Second Album 'Pure Devotion,' Reveals Lead Single 'Lockup'

The acclaimed Welsh electronic duo, Overmono, formed by brothers Tom and Ed Russell, has officially revealed their much-anticipated second studio album, “Pure Devotion.” This new offering, scheduled for release on August 7 through XL Recordings, marks their latest work since their successful 2023 debut, “Good Lies.” The album promises an exciting array of collaborations, featuring talents such as Ruthven, Kindora, Rock Floyd, and John Joseph Holt. To kick off the album cycle, Overmono has released the dynamic lead single, “Lockup,” a track that creatively reinterprets the Birmingham post-punk group Fast Relief’s classic “What A Waste” into a pulsating, club-ready anthem.

Overmono's 'Pure Devotion' Album Details and Creative Process Revealed

In a recent press announcement, Overmono shared insights into the creative philosophy behind “Pure Devotion.” The duo expressed a desire to emphasize the tangible and tactile aspects of their studio work, highlighting the diverse and often unconventional methods employed to craft the album’s distinctive soundscapes. They recounted a series of experimental techniques, including running tape over magnets, deliberately overloading speakers, and integrating a cost-effective, overclocked effects unit acquired years prior in Bromley. Demonstrating their innovative spirit, the brothers even resorted to oven-baking a cymbal coated with an unusual mixture of coffee grounds, potato chips, and vinegar to achieve unique sonic textures.

Since the release of their debut album, “Good Lies,” Overmono has maintained a robust schedule, refining their live performances and expanding their global presence. Their activities included a comprehensive world tour, a notable Boiler Room set recorded in Manchester, and a memorable appearance at the prestigious Glastonbury Festival. In 2024, their creative output continued with a remix of The Streets' iconic track “Turn the Page” and a collaborative single titled “Stayinit,” featuring artists Fred Again.. and Lil Yachty. This period of intense activity and experimentation has culminated in “Pure Devotion,” an album poised to further solidify Overmono’s reputation for innovative electronic music.

A Journey into Sonic Craftsmanship and Artistic Evolution

The announcement of Overmono’s new album, “Pure Devotion,” alongside the release of their compelling lead single “Lockup,” presents an inspiring example of artistic dedication and fearless experimentation in contemporary electronic music. The duo’s commitment to exploring unconventional sound design techniques, such as oven-baking a cymbal or manipulating tape with magnets, underscores a profound passion for sonic craftsmanship. This meticulous approach not only distinguishes their work but also encourages listeners and fellow artists to consider the boundless possibilities of creative production. Overmono’s continuous evolution, marked by global tours and high-profile collaborations, reflects a vibrant and dynamic presence in the music scene, reminding us that true artistry often thrives on innovation and a willingness to push creative boundaries.
